Timeless Interior Design

Hello Trish Tribe! We know something new and exciting is constantly popping up in the interior design world. In today's blog, we will discuss seven timeless design elements, so you won't need to keep changing your décor every few years.

Neutral colors

Stick with neutral colors to create a timeless look rather than falling for the latest colors or trends out there. Use colors like beige, gray, white, black, and brown to create a neutral backdrop. Apply lighter, neutral colors to the walls and light and darker shades to your furnishings. You can bring in your desired bolder colors via pillows, curtains, artwork, rugs, and other accessories. These items are easier to swap out if you want to update your look.

Bookcases and Open Shelving

The use of bookcases and open shelving fall under the timeless design umbrella and is our second timeless element. Utilizing bookcases and open shelving to showcase your artwork, family heirlooms, favorite photos, and books allow you to have a degree of style flexibility. Since the shelves are in a fixed position, all you have to do is change the objects without a lot of heavy lifting. Rearranging things is a cost-effective way to keep your décor interesting.

Vintage and Classic Furniture Pieces

Use classic or vintage items instead of furnishing your entire home with big box store furniture. After a few years with box furniture, you'll be back in the stores replacing those broken and off-trend pieces. Interior design experts select classic or vintage furniture items because they bring warmth to the space and add a layer of texture and history to your timeless décor.

When choosing classic furniture pieces, select popular mid-century and beautiful antique pieces. Vintage items should be in good condition that matches your décor. Natural Fiber Rugs

Natural fiber rugs made from jute and sisal are known for their durability, versatility, and timelessness. Their durability allows them to be located in most areas of your home and retain their look and feel. They don't overpower the décor in your living spaces. If anything, they complement it by adding a bit of texture too. The natural beauty and versatility of these rugs allow them to stand on their own or be paired with other rugs to create that laying effect we love so much.

Subway Tiles

Subway tiles have been in style for over a century. They remain a preferred choice among interior design experts because they are great at reflecting light and brightening subway stations. You can find them in glass, porcelain, ceramic, and other materials. The white subway tile is the most timeless color, but you can opt for any color you want with this timeless element. Tiles can be laid in a brick pattern but stacked, and herringbone is popular too. They can be used by themselves or paired with other tiles to create beautiful designs.

Crown Molding

Crown molding can level up almost any space. Crown molding painted out in white creates an elegant high-end feel. Crown molding left in a natural wood state can offer an upscale, comfortable feel. Crown molding and wall trim create luxe detailing, making the space feel high-end. However, if your décor is ultra-modern, crown molding may not work, but it will for most other styles. The beauty of crown molding is that it's not expensive but creates that timeless wow factor in any home.

House Plants

Plants add warmth and elevate the look and feel of a space. Adding plants is always a good idea, whether you use a few strategically placed or many plants creating an almost jungle-like environment. If your home doesn't get a lot of light, don't worry; plenty of low-light plants are available to you too. Don't sleep on the timeless nature of plants. They can make an empty room feel full of life.
